After fears that stress in the $1.8 trillion private credit market could trigger a broader financial crisis, the sector has shown signs of stabilizing rather than collapsing.

Highly-indebted companies are increasingly moving away from private credit loans in favor of cheaper financing through the syndicated bank loan market, reflecting the pressure of sustained higher interest rates.

Fundraising for non-traded business development companies has dropped sharply, falling to $2 billion in the second quarter — an 82% decline from a year earlier — signaling a broader shift underway in how capital flows across the private credit asset class.
